ABOUT OUR MUSIC SCHOOL

At Solfege House Music School, you can learn any style, at any age, at any level. Classical, Pop, Jazz, Blues – Piano, Guitar, Singing, Music Theory, Composition – It’s all here!

 

We have three gorgeous studio rooms with state-of-the-art equipment and comfort to make your learning experiences as warm as possible. We hold annual student concerts which showcases our students progress throughout the year to family and friends. AMEB, VCE, Theory tutoring are all available, our qualified teachers can guide you through any exams, or just help grow your musicianship at your own pace.

Solfege House was started in 1996 by Founder and Head of Music, Alla Schnall. Fast track to today, and the school is now flourishing, being run by Alla and her daughter Emily Schnall. The school has currently been running for over 25+ years, and has seen hundreds of students come through our doors to learn music in a supportive, warm and welcoming environment. 

Solfege House Music School welcomes any inquiries for lessons, and are happy to say that your first trial lesson with us is completely free. We currently cater for any age, any level of Piano, Guitar, Singing, Music Theory and Composition, and if we may not offer an instrument or area of music you need, please contact us about getting our sessional staff in for lessons on the instrument of your choice!

Every year we have a public ticketed concert, where we invite all of our students to perform for their family and friends! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase what that have been working on throughout the year in a positive environment. ALLA SCHNALL

Head of School + Teacher

Piano, AMEB, Theory, Conducting

Alla has a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the Melbourne Conservatorium, and a Diploma of Music from Moscow, Russia, specialising in Conducting and Classical Piano. She started Solfege House in 1996, as well as teaching for 18 years at Yamaha Music, now having over 25 years of experience in teaching piano, theory, classical voice, conducting, and arranging.

EMILY SCHNALL
Co-Head of School + Teacher
Voice, Piano, AMEB, Composition & Arranging, Theory, Music Industry

Emily has a Bachelor of Music from Monash University, majoring in Jazz Vocal Performance, and is currently undertaking her Masters in Arts and Cultural Management at Melbourne University. Specialising in Voice, Emily can teach a broad range of styles including Musical Theatre, Contemporary Popular Music and Jazz. Emily also teaches contemporary piano, having completed a high level of AMEB piano and using the piano as a composition and accompanying tool. She has been a performer, band leader, manager and composer, having participated in Estill Voice Training Level 1 + 2, was a vocal mentor with the New York Jazz Symposium / The Juilliard School. Being the recipient for multiple Australian awards for her work as a vocalist and composer, be sure to book in a FREE trial lesson with Em today!

TOM KINDERMANN

Teacher 

Guitar, Arranging, Theory

Tom has a Bachelor of Music from the University of Monash specialising in Jazz Performance. Tom has been performing music for 10 years, and has been teaching guitar for the last 6. With extensive experience in many contemporary styles including: blues, rock, jazz and pop, a deep knowledge of jazz theory and musical theory concepts, Tom has been an active performer and sessional musician in the local music scene for a few years. ANNUAL CONCERTS

Each year we have the Solfege House Annual Concerts, where we invite all of our students to perform for their family and friends! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase what they have been working on throughout the year in a positive and supportive environment.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following terms and conditions are at the discretion of the teacher:

Tutition Fees

  • Lessons are scheduled during public school terms

  • Tuition fees will be invoiced on your 1st lesson of the term, for the full term and due by the 3rd week of the term

  • Payment methods include cash, cheque or direct bank transfer

  • Lessons vary from 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on the student level.​​

  • Note: Our new students are invited to attend an evaluation session with your teacher prior to commencement of lessons.The evaluation session is free.

Missed Lessons

  • If you know that you will be away during term, a make-up lesson or credit may be available. Please notify your teacher prior to the commencement of the term

  • If you are unable to attend a scheduled lesson, you must provide notification no less then 24 hours prior to the lesson. If 24 hours notice is not provided, a make-up lesson or credit will not be available.

Teacher Absense

  • You are entitled to a make-up lesson or where rescheduling is not possible, a credit will be given.

Make-up Lessons - Subject to Availability

Make-up lessons may be provided:

  • As a single lesson during the term

  • On the 1st or 2nd day of the school holiday or as an extension of any lesson during term

  • Where 24 hours notice is given, one make-up lesson is available per term

  • Make-up lessons do not accumulate from term to term

  • Make-up lessons are not available for group classes missed.

Discontinuation

  • Advise the teacher two weeks prior where you wish to discontinue lessons.
